Gabby, this is a critique for your photo. I'm critiquing the portrait shot of you, the bottom one. You put yourself in the corner which was effective because it worked with the photograph and carries to viewer throughout the photograph. You used the rule of thirds with where your face was and that's really good. The line and shape created by your hair takes the viewer in towards your face and then back out again. I like how your face is over exposed and the background isnt clear, I think also the face on the chalk board that isnt in focus is also really good. I feel like the photograph is like someone looking out the window angsty wanting to leave where they are. The contrast between your face and the background is really nice, and sharp. everything looks nice and proportional. I would use the language of longing to describe your look in this piece. You look like you're longing to get out. This work reminds me of how I feel in photo class surrounded by sophomores. The piece could also be read as a reflection about you finally graduating high school and wanting to get out of this school. Like you longing to leave after these 4 years. I think the photo is very strong. It reminds me of a good version of one of those 2007 emo myspace profile pictures that someone edits to have text reading my chemical romance lyrics over it. Like one of those pictures, except nicer and better done. I feel like the work is original and interesting I think that working with the interesting concept of longing isnt something a lot of people have done. You did good gabby.
